Actor Mark Wahlberg - Zuma / Starface

Mark Wahlberg could expect a flashback by expressing his support for the Black Lives Matter movement. He did, however, paying homage to George Floyd on Instagram. And reactions were quick: several internet users recalled the actor’s troubled past and his time in prison for a racist act. He was 14 years old in 1986 when he threw stones at African American students. Two years later, under the influence of drugs, he assaulted a man of Vietnamese origin by uttering racist insults and received 45 days in prison.

"Let's not forget that Mark Wahlberg almost killed an Asian with his bare hands when he was a teenager," posted a surfer in comment, when another added: "It is not you who has a section entirely devoted to your hate crimes on your Wikipedia page? A past that the star has never hidden, however.

Mark Wahlberg continues to regret his actions, even more than 30 years later. But as he had explained during the promotion of Spencer Confidential , it is important for him that everyone has the right to a second chance. Second chance notably offered to an ex-detainee fresh out of 16 years of detention to whom the actor had obtained a role in the film.

"It could easily have been my life. Being in this situation and having nothing else: I certainly made a lot of terrible mistakes and I paid for these mistakes, ”he said. Despite his good intentions, the actor could well suffer the consequences of his actions for decades afterwards, when several Internet users called for him to disappear from the screens.
