Author JK Rowling tweeted in a tweet that the site Devex - a "media platform for global development" - has written "people who menstruate" instead of "women". The tweet got ridiculed by people who say that Rowling invisible transgender and non-binary by writing so.
Rowling herself has written that she respects transgender people, but that one cannot erase the gender. “My life has been shaped by being a woman. I don't think it's so hateful to say so. "
One of those who thinks JK Rowling is wrong is Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe. He writes on the site of The Trevor project - a support organization for vulnerable LGBTQ people - that "trans women are women". The actor also writes that his statement should not be seen as a personal conflict between him and JK Rowling, adding that he hopes the reading experience of the Harry Potter books has not been ruined. "What is between you and the books you read is sacred," he writes.
JK Rowling has previously been criticized for his views on transgender people. Most recently in December 2019 when she "liked" a tweet that called trans women "men in dress".
