Manu Payet replaces Camille Combal on Virgin Radio. - Aurelie Lamachere / SIPA

  • Manu Payet will replace Camille Combal on Virgin Radio in September.
  • Comedian, actor, director… Manu Payet returns to radio after several years of absence.

Manu Payet will have to relearn to get up early. At the start of the next school year, he will host Virgin Tonic , the morning (7 am-10am) of Virgin Radio that Camille Combal has presented since 2014. At the end of last May, the host of TF1 ( Dance with the stars , Who wants to earn millions,  etc.) , had announced to end this adventure after six years of good and loyal service.

It will therefore be a major challenge for Manu Payet. The comedian, actor and director will succeed the funny Camille Combal, and maintain audiences that the host of Virgin Tonic had significantly improved, as reported by Puremédias. But we can trust Manu Payet to ambiate the early risers of the radio, a medium with which he reconnects after several years of absence.

Debut on the air

It was in Reunion that Manu Payet got his start on the air with NRJ Réunion, before joining in 2000 the antenna of NRJ Paris in mainland France. It was on the island where he was born and raised that Frédéric Pau, the managing director of Virgin Radio, got to know him. “20 years ago, I had the chance to meet Manu Payet in Reunion. We had promised to relive a radio adventure together… 20 years later, the time has come for him to join us on Virgin Radio. So welcome to Virgin, Manu, "he explains in a press release.

On NRJ he officiates in the midday and evening boxes, notably the free My NRJ antenna from 7 p.m. to midnight, before joining the morning show of 6/9 in which he participated for several years. In 2007 he was entrusted with The Sunday Strawberry , Sunday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. alongside Mathieu Oullion, a program which stopped at the end of the season. So if some doubted (you never know), yes, Manu Payet knows how to get up early.

First steps on stage

After some TV appearances on Comedy channels! ( Starloose Academy ) or on France 2 with Laurent Ruquier, as well as co-writing sketches for Elie Semoun, he launched himself into a career as a comedian, with a first show in 2007 and 2008.

On stage, he traces his journey, his departure for the metropolis and in particular confesses his fear of flying, in a sketch that should speak to many phobics. Ten years later, he returned with another one-man show called Emmanuel for which he received a nomination for the 2018 Molière for the best comedy show.

At the end of the 2000s Manu Payet also launched out in the cinema where he doubled in particular the voice of Po in  Kung-Fu Panda (a funny animated film but which makes a little cry too), and plays in many films like Radiostars (decidedly), or All that shines by Hervé Mimran and Géraldine Nakache, whose life he shared for some time.

A passage behind the camera

Before putting a foot on the radio, the last years of Manu Payet were under the sign of the cinema, in particular as a co-director with Rodolphe Lauga in 2014 of the comedy Romantic situation: It is complicated . He also plays in several films, among others alongside JoeyStarr in Les Gorilles (2015), in Gangsterdam (2017), and most recently in Selfie with Blanche Gardin, Max Boublil and Elsa Zylberstein.

On the animation side, in 2018 he was given the delicate task of presenting the Césars on Canal +, and probably offers one of the best cover versions of Orelsan's Basic , in a presentation clip before the ceremony.

Host, actor, humorist ... Manu Payet seems to have all the weapons to succeed Camille Combal. “A personality as talented as friendly who will put his multiple facets at the service of our listeners and this essential event. I am convinced that he will be able to awaken our listeners with the kindness, humor and proximity that characterize him ”,estimated in a statementConstance Benqué, president of Lagardère News, radio owner.

We therefore wish good luck to Manu Payet for this new adventure, and good luck for difficult awakenings.
