A system has been developed in which AI = artificial intelligence automatically subtitles the audio of online classes, which is increasing due to the spread of the new coronavirus. Demonstration tests are scheduled to begin at the university this month.

Developed by Toshiba, this system subtitles the audio of an online lesson teacher almost simultaneously.

This means that students can view subtitles by accessing Internet sites from their computers and smartphones.

AI is a feature that artificial intelligence has learned about 500,000 words to improve the accuracy of speech recognition. If you read the materials used in the class in advance, you can recognize technical terms and improve the accuracy of subtitles. It is said that it can be raised further.

Since the contents of the lesson will be written in text, we expect that it will be possible to solve the problems of online lessons, such as checking the missed parts later.

Demonstration tests are scheduled to begin at Keio University and Hosei University later this month, and the company will continue to increase the number of universities and hope to put them into practical use next year.

In addition, we plan to support English and Chinese in the future.

Mr. Kenji Iwata of Toshiba Research and Development Center said, "I would like to work on technology development that allows two-way interaction with students. I would like to think about ways to use it to support people with hearing impairments."
