After many years of silence, this oldest monastery built in Shanxi has been repaired and protected to continue the historical context.

  【Explanation】According to the records of Yangqu County in the 23rd year of Qing Daoguang (1843), the temple was built during the Jian'an period of the Eastern Han Dynasty (196-220), about 1800 years ago, and was named Puzhao Temple in the early Tang Dynasty , In order to avoid Wu Zetian (Wu) taboo changed to Puguang Temple. The Puguang Temple is a symbol of Sino-Indian cultural exchange and traditional friendship in Chinese history, and a historical testimony of the unity of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in China.

  【Explanation】According to records, Puguang Temple has been repaired to different degrees in Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the main existing buildings are relics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The temple sits north and faces south. It was originally the layout of the two-entry courtyard, and the main hall, the back hall and the west wing are preserved. The main hall is a building of the Ming Dynasty, and the rear hall and the west chamber are buildings of the Qing Dynasty.

  When it was just built, it was not in the position we are in now, it is in our current Jinyang ancient city. After the Song Dynasty, Jinyang City moved to our present Taiyuan City location, and Puguang Temple also moved from the original Jinyang Ancient City to this location.

After the founding of New China, Puguang Temple was occupied by the school. Later, it also served as a dormitory and warehouse, and was once used as a residential house.

  [Explanation] In 2009, Puguang Temple was listed as "Taiyuan Cultural Relics Protection Unit". In 2013, work began on repairs. While retaining the Ming and Qing buildings, color paintings, murals, and paintings were added. At the beginning of 2020, the Puguang Temple was managed by the Twin Towers Museum of Taiyuan.

  The main hall is a relic of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the main hall should be well preserved. In 2014, some repairs were made to the main hall of Puguang Temple and other buildings. The road outside was improved, so we also upgraded the main hall. From the foundation to our current platform, a height of 2.6 meters has been raised, but the beams, column foundations, and structures above were all used during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
