Single-parent homes New coronas have serious impact on NGO support June 6, 5:04

Last month, an organization that supports children who have a hard time in life asked a single-parent family who supported food etc. about the impact of the new coronavirus, but some families answered that they had lost their income I found out that. The group will start accepting the second support from the 6th.

Supporting this is an internationally active organization, Save the Children Japan, which packed food and daily necessities for a single-parent family living in the 23 wards of Tokyo last month. We distributed "support box".

The group prepared 310 households, but when we started accepting them via our website, etc., we reached the upper limit in two days earlier than expected.

When asking the applicants about the effects of the new coronavirus, nearly 60% of households answered that their income had decreased by more than half.

Even if we focused only on the answers that we had no income at all, it was 20% of the total, and we found that there was a serious impact.

In addition, most of the respondents answered that food expenses increased, and more than 80% of households answered that the expenses for water and utilities increased.

When asked about children's lives and learning environments, about 40% answered that they do not have a computer or tablet that children can use.

Regarding the state of life, there were also comments such as "I eat only once every two days" and "My child lost weight during the school holidays."

In response to this situation, the group decided to provide the second support, targeting 1,000 single-parent households in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba on the 6th at 10 am We are going to start accepting.

Mitsue Tashiro, Manager of Save the Children Japan Domestic Division, said, "I would like you to use the support without hesitation alone and when you are in trouble."
