The Madagascar Minister of Education, Regasua Andriamanaana, was sacked yesterday, a few days after she announced a plan to buy candy for pupils to ease the passage of herbal tea promoted by President Andre Rajoelina to combat the emerging coronavirus.
And last week, Andriamanana announced that it had ordered two million euros worth of candy.
She told media, "The purchase of candies, at a rate of three per person, was planned with the intention of serving it with coffed-organics tea to the students," explaining that the taste of this drink was bitter.
The potential benefits of this herbal tea have not yet been investigated in any scientific study.
This candy order caused indignation among the inhabitants of the island, which is considered one of the poorest countries in the world, and was recently canceled.
And Thursday, according to a press release, the Council of Ministers sacked Andriamanana.
