A government office and the Chinese media said that a primary school guard stabbed 39 people with a knife today, including many children. The media office in southwestern Guangxi Province, where the attack occurred, said two of the injured were seriously injured.
The paper, which is supported by the Shanghai government, said the suspect was 50 years old and surnamed his family (Li) and was working as a guard at the school in Wangfu Town and that the attack started at about 8:30 am (0030 GMT).
One of the parents told Biber newspaper that many of the injured children are about six years old. China has seen several attacks on schoolchildren in recent years, and eight children were killed in a similar attack in Hubei province last year.
