  • Today, “L'Histoire d'Ana” by Cathy Borie, published on April 30, 2020 by Éditions Librinova.

Christian Dorsan, writer, blogger and early contributor to the reading group "20 Minutes Books", recommends L'Histoire d'Ana  by Cathy Borie, published on April 30, 2020 by Éditions Librinova.

His favorite quote:

“Wherever you are, when you are alone, the first night is always the worst, the scariest, the least familiar. "

Why this book?

  • Because the talent of Cathy Borie is to tell us  in parallel two journeys of young women with a palette of feelings skilfully measured. The novel never falls into ill-humor or into any apparent empathy. We are literally propelled into their lives.
  • Because the subjects of society (rape, prison, birth under X ...) are approached without detour, without ever falling into miserability and without avoiding taboos. The characters are endearing, the narrative situations well constructed. Sensitive souls beware: you may shed tears of emotion. The psychology of the characters is finely chiseled.
  • Because there is a lot of sensitivity in the description of the characters and the life courses. A lot of intelligent emotion emerges from this book.

The essential in 2 minutes

The intrigue.  Two young women. One is the mother of the other. One will rebuild in guilt, the other will build in rebellion. Lives like dominoes falling on top of them.

Characters.  Clotilde, a shy student at the start of the novel, Sophie her best friend, Louis the somber seducer. At the same time, Ana, Clotilde's daughter, Lulu, her street companion, Robin and Inès, brother and sister.

Places.  Paris Paris region, Brive.

The time.  Current era.

The author.  Author and contributor to the 20 Minutes book platform , Cathy Borie writes novels including Dans la chair des anges , which won the First Prize in the Draftquest / Librinova competition. She also wrote a collection of poems and a play. His books are about family.

This book was read in one go because the narration is fascinating and makes you want to turn the pages to find out more. I was overwhelmed by this reading. If you asked the question of "why write", Cathy Borie responds with this novel: to make people love!
