Actor Chris Evans - Sarah Stewart / Starface

Chris Evans was not far from quitting everything even as his career began to take off. The actor struggled to cope with pressure from critics and the box office, to the point of having "panic attacks" on the set.

"The first time I had a little panic attack on set, I really started to wonder if I was made for this job", he remembered in reference to the shooting of Puncture , in 2010, at the microphone of the Hollywood Reporter Awards Chatter podcast  . And he could have made the wrong decision if he hadn't benefited from a little help from Marvel, but also from a certain Robert Downey Jr.

The right decision

It may sound surprising, but Chris Evans has long hesitated to even audition for Captain America . Worse, the actor has systematically refused all the tests that Marvel offered him, until he was simply given the role on a set. And there again, it took the intervention of Robert Downey Jr., aka Iron Man, to convince him to make the right decision. A funny anecdote when we know that it was the same with Mark Ruffalo who hesitated to play the Hulk and who now refuses to let go of the role!

Anyway, after 11 films in the costume of Captain America, Chris Evans is more than grateful. "It was the best decision of my life, and I really owe it to Kevin Feige [the boss of Marvel] who insisted and saved me from making a huge mistake. To be honest, all the things I feared never happened, ”added Chris Evans.
