On May 29th, the Heilongtan Reservoir in Renshou County, Sichuan Province, continued to drop in water level. A statue on a rock cliff revealed the true appearance, including a 16-meter-high sitting Buddha built in the Tang Dynasty. In the 1970s, due to the construction of the Heilongtan Reservoir, the seated Buddha's chest sank underwater with the surrounding grottoes and cliff tombs. Information shows that the seated Buddha was built in the Tang Dynasty and is a Maitreya statue. It is 16 meters high, 7.2 meters wide at the shoulders, high-relief, and wide-clothed belt. Due to its age, the Buddha's head has been destroyed and covered with vegetation. The inscription "Leshan is tireless" of the Zhixian Shizhikang of the Qing Dynasty on the cliff beside the sitting Buddha is clearly visible. The picture shows a vivid stone carving on the rock wall.
