Emmanuel Macron will launch this Friday, a Commission chaired by Jean Tirole, winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, and Olivier Blanchard, former chief economist of the IMF. In the company of 26 European and American economists, they will have to work on 3 themes: Climate, Equality, Demography. Three themes that the Elysée considers structuring in the long term.

Emmanuel Macron today launches a Commission with the greatest economists. They will have to work on the economic challenges that lie ahead. Beyond this epidemic, what are the major challenges that will shape the decades to come? Emmanuel Macron instructed the Nobel Prize winner in economics Jean Tirole and Olivier Blanchard, the former Chief Economist of the IMF, to create a Commission to reflect on the major challenges of the century. There are three great themes, three Great challenges that lie ahead. The climate of course. Second theme, inequalities. We know that the middle classes are laminated… .That is there, the base, the foundation of our democratic societies. And then, finally, the third major theme, demography. We are 7 billion to be human. Tomorrow 10 billion. But everyone aspires to live better: having a car, a garden, a swimming pool? Will the planet hold shock?

Yes, but Axel, these questions are very largely dependent on Asia: China, India… (countries which each have more than a billion inhabitants).

There, and therein lies the great limit of this Commission. And like, we are not going to lecture Chinese and Indians to explain to them how they should live. Suddenly, these 3 themes are limited to France. So, it gives:

- On the climate, the question will be how our businesses, our way of life can adapt to the climate constraint.

- On, demography, how to deal with the aging of the population?

But, indeed, we can see that on these key questions (climate, demography), we have not taken hold. And for good reason, France is 1% of the world population. And 1% of global C02 emissions. We are therefore spectators, helpless .... of these great challenges. And once again, we can see that the only way to weigh, to be heard on these essential subjects… is the European Union… .As we recall, the Europe of 27 weighs more economically than China.
