Comedian Guy Bedos died Thursday at the age of 85. On Europe 1, former Minister of Culture Jack Lang paid tribute to a "generous soul", a man "who chastised those he loved with love".

A legend of French humor died on Thursday: filmmaker and writer Nicolas Bedos announced the disappearance of his father, Guy, at the age of 85, from a long illness. Squeaky humor, and heart on the left: Guy Bedos had supported different socialist figures like François Mitterrand and François Hollande, a commitment which allowed him to befriend Jack Lang. On Europe 1, the former Minister of Culture paid tribute to "a beautiful and generous soul".

"Guy Bedos was an extraordinary inventor of his own humor," said Jack Lang. "He was himself stripper, hilarious, explosive." The comedian had been awarded the Molière for the best one-man show in 1990, and some of his sketches remain essential, like "La drague" or "Paulette".

"Unwavering Support" for Mitterrand

But Guy Bedos was therefore, too, a traveling companion of French socialism, which had its golden age in 1981. "He was for François Mitterrand a constant friend at different times," recalled Jack Lang. "When they were confronted with difficult situations, Guy Bedos responded present and brought his friendship and his unwavering support."

The verb sometimes hard but the heart always tender, nuanced Jack Lang at the microphone of Europe 1: "At the same time, he did not hesitate to criticize, because he had a lively and thick tongue. Sometimes, he chastised those that he loved, he always did with love and tenderness. "
