There was a time when the tricorn was in the corsair city. In the spring of 2020, the coronavirus epidemic prompted hackers to give up their hats for the mask. Worried to see the streets of the intramural populate since the deconfinement, the mayor of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) took a decree making the wearing of the mask compulsory in the old city.

The elected official preferred to impose it from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., only in the narrowest and most commercial streets of the intramural, in a sector going from the main street to the Saint-Vincent door, until at the market place and the Place du Pilori. The obligation will only be valid for the long weekends of Ascension and Pentecost.

Asked about the reasons for this order, Claude Renoult justified himself by mentioning "the difficulties in ensuring respect for distances between people". The mayor spoke of his fear that he would be imposed "more severe measures" and his wish "to save the local economy". Since the deconfinement, access to the ramparts is again possible, but a traffic direction has been imposed.

Thursday, municipal police patrolled the streets to enforce the order and a street crier, disguised as a pirate, recalled the instructions. As the sun was shining brightly, hundreds of people took possession of the immense Sillon beach. There too, the police were watching over the grain. If access to the sand is authorized, the beach must remain "dynamic". Overall, these measures were respected by visitors.

In Morbihan and Finistère, the prefects prohibited access to several beaches, at the request of mayors, who had noticed overflows the previous weekend. The Ille-et-Vilaine prefecture had not received any such request to date.
