The German Federation of Physicians has announced that there are in Germany a physician for every approximately 200 citizens. The federation said on Friday that the total number of registered doctors reached 402 thousand doctors last year, an increase of about 10 thousand doctors compared to 2018.

The Federation stated that immigration from abroad reduces the burden in the health sector currently in Germany, pointing out that the number of foreign doctors registered in Germany rose last year by about 3800 doctors to 58168 doctors.

Among the countries that most immigrant doctors come from are Germany, Syria (4486 doctors), Romania (4433 doctors), Greece (2811 doctors), Russia (2321 doctors) and Austria (2381 doctors).

"The Corona pandemic has shown us greatly the extent to which our economic and social lives depend on a well-functioning health sector," said union leader Klaus Reinhardt, adding that policy should give the highest priority in the future to strengthening young cadres and providing health professionals.
