Difficult to understand where Lana Del Rey is coming from. In a long message posted on Instagram, the singer decided to respond to her detractors who accuse her of highlighting in her texts, mistreatment of women. As the Huffington Post recalls, Lana Del Rey has sometimes been criticized for romanticizing violent romantic relationships, or staging passivity and submission.

Visibly exasperated by these critics, the artist decided to take on singers such as Beyoncé or Nicki Minaj, and to recall that she did not embrace the feminist cause. A message that caused a real uproar on social networks.

"Let’s be clear, I’m not a feminist"

"Now that Doja Cat, Ariana [Grande], Camila [Cabello], Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have become number 1 with songs about being sexy, not wearing clothes, kissing, to deceive etc., can I start singing again (…) without being crucified or someone saying that I value mistreatment? "She writes, adding that she is fed up with indie singers and singers" who are accusing her. "I'm just a glamorous person who sings of the realities of emotionally abusive relationships that are so prevalent in the world," she said. As the BFMTV website reports, in 2013 singer Lorde had reservations about Lana Del Rey’s lyrics to The Fader  : “She is great, but I listened to her album and I kept telling myself that it is unhealthy for young girls to listen to a message that says "I am nothing without you" ".

Lana Del Rey then goes on to the feminist movement: “Let's be clear, I'm not a feminist, but there must be a place in feminism for women who look like me and who act like me. The kind of women who say no even if men hear yes (…) who have their own stories and voices taken away by stronger women or by men who hate women ”. Not sure that the message is very clear, but we guess that the singer does not necessarily share the feminist fights.
