  • The lights of the coronavirus epidemic are rather green in Occitania.
  • But 225 positive cases were identified between May 13 and 17 and 120 so-called “sensitive” situations had to be brought under control.
  • The authorities call not to relax vigilance before the great Ascension Bridge.

So far everything is going pretty well in Occitania… This is the message delivered before a long, unconstrained Ascension Bridge and its probable population mix by the regional prefect, Etienne Guyot. He insists on "the importance of adopting good behavior to avoid a second wave", in a "green" region which can hope to see its bars and restaurants reopen in early June. But where the coronavirus "still circulates".

Certainly, there are only "80 patients in intensive care against 350 at the peak of the epidemic" and 140 people hospitalized instead of 700 at the height of the crisis, according to Pierre Ricordeau, the director general of the regional agency of Health (ARS). The downward trend therefore continues with good news, in the prisons of Haute-Garonne, for example, where a general screening of staff has revealed no case, or in the Pyrénées-Orientales which have not identified any new patient in one week.

Tarn, Haute-Garonne and Gard more affected

But out of the 16,586 tests carried out in the region between May 13 and 17, 225 were positive, the departments most concerned being Tarn, Haute-Garonne and Gard. The health services, in particular the platform of 250 health insurance agents responsible for reassembling the chain and telephoning possible contact cases so that they can be screened and placed in the fortnight, had to deal with 120 situations known as " sensitive ”. They are designated as such because they concern either schools, healthcare establishments or groups. "40 of these situations are closed, the others are under control," says Philippe Trotabas, coordinating director of risk management at Health Insurance.

4,000 tests per day, soon 8,000

These most recent cases were probably infected before deconfinement. Part of them was detected thanks to the change in doctrine in terms of testing, with systematic screening at the onset of the first symptoms. Since May 11, 4,000 tests have been performed every day in Occitania. The volume should quickly rise to 8,000 with the first effects of deconfinement.

The image adopted by the health authorities is that of "controlling forest fires" for which it is necessary "to ensure that each spark does not become a brush fire". Nothing is won yet.
