The Sainte-Luce media library, near Nantes, has reopened in drive mode - J. Urbach / 20 Minutes

  • Since Tuesday, the René-Goscinny media library in Sainte-Luce, near Nantes, has been deconfigured and has adopted a new approach.
  • From managing returns to organizing loans, everything had to be reinvented to meet the health standards linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

The red benches, on which you could sit to leaf through a magazine, were pushed into a corner. Ditto for the self-service photocopier, now turned off. Since Tuesday afternoon, the René-Goscinny media library in Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire is once again open to the public. In the Nantes area, it is one of the first to test operation in "drive mode". "We were able to organize ourselves so quickly thanks to our large hall," explains Christelle Jolliet, the director. We have a different entrance and exit, which makes things easier. "

To reopen to its more than 8,000 subscribers, it still required a week of work on site and a big dose of organization. In particular with a view to recovering the 15,000 documents that remained "in the wild" since confinement. If the return date has been extended to August 10, huge piles of more than a thousand books, CDs or toys are already on the tables. "They will stay here, without anyone touching them, for ten days," said Marion Le Bec-Walter, one of six librarians, wearing gloves and a mask. Emilie, mother of three, has just taken thirty out of her bag. "We had stock but it was not enough ... I have two big readers at home who ask for more! "

Orders by email or phone

To fill them up, a system of orders to be removed on site has been put in place. Because impossible, probably until the end of August, to let the readers stroll in the aisles and manipulate the books. Since last week, by email, a hundred subscribers have already sent their list to librarians. Pick up when it's ready, usually the same day. "We also have people calling us, especially the elderly," observes the director. They do not have Internet therefore no access to our catalog. We take the time to inform them, to advise them… ”

For those who would like to rediscover a bit of spontaneity, these “surprise lots” remain, composed of five documents preselected by the librarians and classified by categories: youth, manga, novels… In this small “self-service” space, “nuggets” or "novels that would not have had the success they deserved because of confinement". “We had this idea to prevent people from leaving frustrated, says Christelle Jolliet. We were right because it works very well. The borrowing of games has been suspended. "Their disinfection seemed too complicated," it is said.

"Not for social ties"

If the team of the media library is pleased to have been able to reopen the premises so quickly, the atmosphere that reigns there is completely different. Difficult to know when the storytelling or family games will resume. The exchanges revolve for the moment around the instructions, like cleaning the hands with hydroalcoholic gel when arriving.

"It is certain that we do not reopen for social ties but so that subscribers can stock up," admits the director. Strongly return to normal. "
