Nearly seventy firefighters intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out on Monday, late afternoon, in a warehouse in Lillebonne (Seine-Maritime), near Le Havre, reports Paris Normandie . Fire soldiers from across the department were dispatched to the scene. It took more than three hours to come to grips with this disaster which affected the Ponticelli company, a subcontractor for industries "of oil and gas, energy, chemistry, pharmacy and of the steel industry ".

The fire started in a mechanical workshop of 500 square meters, in which there were construction machines, oil, paint and bottles of acetylenes, according to information from the local media. According to a statement from the prefecture, "two adjacent cells of 800 square meters have been preserved from the fire".

An explosion would have taken place

An explosion would have been heard, ensures Paris Normandy . If the flames were contained at 8 p.m., the fire was extinguished around 9:15 p.m., police said. The incident remained under surveillance throughout the night to prevent a re-ignition. No one was killed among company personnel, who had left the site for almost an hour at the time of the fire. On the other hand, "three firefighters suffer from slight ringing in the ears", reveals the prefecture.

This company is not part of the Seveso classification and is therefore not subject to a high level of prevention. TheSdis does not deplore any pollution after this incident.An investigation is underway to understand the origin of the incident. Initial findings indicate that this is an accident, but this information remains to be confirmed.
