The portrait of Didier Raoult tattooed by Louisa on the arm of his companion Enzo. - Louisa

  • Professor Didier Raoult is always in fashion in Marseille.
  • Some admirers have his portrait tattooed, while others display it on an advertising van.
  • Yet the professor of medicine remains very controversial within the scientific community

It has been making headlines since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The director of the Institut hospitalo universitaire Universitaire Infection, Didier Raoult, is one of the very controversial figures in this global crisis. Despite the beginning of deconfinement, the figure of the professor remains fashionable in Marseille. During the confinement, groups of Marseilles supporters paid tribute to him with a banner installed in front of the IHU. More recently, on May 1, Marseilles taxis highly acclaimed him after waiting for him at the exit of his institute. Between rock star and guru.

Didier Raoult's face even came to cover the skin of certain fans. This is the case of Enzo de Carlo. His partner tattooed the portrait of Didier Raoult on his arm. “With my companion, we are fervent admirers of Didier Raoult. We were already interested in the health field and we followed his words a lot during this crisis. I specialize in portrait tattooing, so we had this idea of tattooing Raoult's tattoo on my husband's arm to pay tribute to him, ”explains Louisa Petri, from the Manor of Skin salon in Bausset, in the Var.

"A little buzz is always welcome"

A sign of recognition through a tattoo, but also a little chauvinism. "I am from Marseilles with a very long line, so it is certain that Didier Raoult is from us. It is a real pride and it is a way of showing that we are attached to our territory", says T -she.

But a tattoo that also made people talk. "The objective was clearly to pay tribute to him, and a little buzz is always welcome," she admits. Since the media coverage of Enzo's tattoo, Louisa has received a few requests. "Yes, I have a lot of people asking me for information. Not necessarily for portraits of Didier Raoult, but they want to make a sort of nod to this period by getting a virus tattoo with the "13" of Bouches-du-Rhône for example, "recounts Louise.

"Professor Raoult saved my life"

The buzz, Mike Chevalier also had the right thanks to the now famous professor. He toured the streets of Marseille during the first week of deconfinement at the wheel of his advertising van. "Marseille and the rest of the world love you and support you Pr Didier Raoult [sic]", could we read on the advertising panel that adorns his van. Mike Chevalier had launched this advertising concept just before confinement. "Since last week, I have been on France 3, on M6, on Cnews, so yes it made us a good publicity stunt," he admits.

A buzz necessarily welcome, but a sincere approach on the part of Mike. “Professor Raoult saved my life two years ago, treating me with Q fever. It is a very rare infectious disease, and he had treated me with chloroquine. I also have an appointment with him this Wednesday to do a check, as happens to me from time to time. He is a great person, someone super nice despite his rocker look. It will also be an opportunity for me to tell him that I am at the origin of this message, ”rejoices Mike.
