Jérôme Salomon on 05/19 - DGS

  • This Tuesday evening, the balance sheet announced by the Ministry of Health is 28,022 dead, without Jérôme Salomon announcing it himself in his speech.
  • However, the day before, there were 217 additional deaths. Reason invoked in the evening: "adjustments in the reporting of data".
  • "You must be tested at the slightest doubt" by having a test prescribed by your doctor if you have symptoms, insisted Jérôme Salomon, ensuring that "deconfining does not mean the end of the epidemic".

The assessment of the coronavirus epidemic was revised… downward on Tuesday, due to revised figures down in nursing homes and medico-social establishments, according to the Directorate General of Health.

In its data on May 19 on the government site, the DGS indicates 10,308 deaths in the Ehpad, against 10,650 on Monday, for a total of at least 28,022 dead since March 1. The number of deaths in hospitals rose to 17,714, 125 more than Monday. However, on Monday, the total number of deaths announced was 28,239.

When questioned, the DGS clarified that this new figure "results from adjustments in the reporting of data from the Regional Health Agencies". There have already been several problems with the feedback of balance sheets in Ehpad since they were taken into account from the beginning of April.

Total death figures not communicated live

During a briefing a few minutes earlier, his first in about two weeks, the Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon, did not give, contrary to usual, the total number of deaths, contenting himself with that of hospitalizations, especially in intensive care, which continues to drop, to 1,894 serious patients (-104 in 24 hours).

In addition, when asked about the long-standing objective of the government to be able to perform 700,000 tests per week, and which is currently only halfway with around 50,000 tests carried out per day, Jérôme Salomon assured that this figure was not actually the "real goal".

“The real objective is that we do tests for all the people who are symptomatic, for all the people who need it, the contact cases in particular (…) all the situations where we need to test, around 'a cluster around grouped cases (…), all the hospital situations that require it (…) that is the real objective, it is to succeed in our testing strategy and that is what we are going to do ”, a he said.

"You have to be tested at the slightest doubt" by having a test prescribed by your doctor in case of symptoms, he insisted, ensuring that "deconfining does not mean the end of the epidemic".

"No signal" on an increase in post-containment contamination

Asked about a possible increase in contagions since the deconfinement, Jérôme Salomon said that "today we do not have this signal". "But we have to be very careful because we still have several days of vigilance, we have behavior changes that have been observed, people have gradually returned to work, the number of people in transport continues to increase, so there You have to know that the situation is evolving, that we have a setback linked to the incubation period and that therefore we have to remain extremely careful, ”he insisted.

Jérôme Salomon also gave new figures concerning childhood inflammatory disease close to Kawasaki disease and probably linked to Covid-19 and affecting certain children.

There have been "152 cases since March 1st, with 98 cases a possible link with the disease (Covid), for others an investigation still in progress and in many other cases no link with the disease. There was a peak in mid-April and a steady decrease since then, "he said. There had previously been 144 reported cases.
