He is piloting Airbus and needs visibility and a deconfinement of air traffic. Guillaume Faury, the owner of the aircraft manufacturer, called on Tuesday for the reopening of European borders and skies. Asked about France 2 and Franceinfo, he wanted "the reopening of the free movement of people to be clearly declared in European territory".

While the airlines are grounded and cancel their orders, the manufacturer is hit hard by the consequences of the health crisis. "We are ready now, we need political decisions", explains the leader who wants "a resumption of flights to avoid too deep damage to the airlines and therefore too long-lasting impact on the aeronautical sector and companies like Airbus" .

Traffic down 85% from last year

Guillaume Faury no longer rules out the possibility of layoffs in his group, which has lost "30 to 40% of its activity" and "needs to understand how long it will last".

The borders of the European Union have been closed since March 17. For internal borders, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, hopes to ease border restrictions from June 15.

Just over 5,000 flights were recorded in Europe on Monday by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol). It is 85% less than a year ago… but still 5% more than in mid-April.
