From unopened movies that were banned to screen at the time, to foreign documentaries that illuminated May 18, and commercial films where major scenes were deleted due to censorship… Only now can the audience be properly evaluated. The filmmakers in the 1980s who were sternly said, still. I had a heavy sense of responsibility and mission to make a 5 · 18 film. At the time, we look at the messages that our filmmakers wanted to convey to the audience through the key scenes in the film.

This film was produced by director Kim Tae-young, who is a documentary prohibition film 'Hwang Moo-ji' (1988 / unopened) . This series continues with the 1987 film Kant's presentation. Kant's presentation addresses the pain of the militias and the wasteland's conscience. It attempted to screen in 1988, the first year of the Roh Tae-woo administration, but was eventually banned by security agencies. The decisive scene with the screening ban was taken directly below.

<2> Japanese documentary 'Free Gwangju' (domestic screening is prohibited)

This work was co-produced by Japanese printmaker `` Teiyama Tomiyama '' in 1981, one year after May 18. Writer Tomiyama was born in Kobe, Japan in 1921, and spent her childhood in Old Manchuria and Harbin. At the time, after witnessing the state of imperialism Japan, they showed works that urged Japan to repent and reflect on their lives. In the documentary, writer Tomiyama described riots as `` gorilla soldiers ''.
