Read moreAfter the Second World War, the American dream industry flourished. It's even the golden age of Hollywood. The big American studios shape the stars and draw spectators into the halls who want to forget the horrors of war.
What if Hollywood had helped transform society? What if a large studio was run by a woman, who would have approved projects without taking into account the skin color or sexual orientation of the participants?
The golden age of the dream factory
Ryan Murphy's mini-series recreates the golden age of the dream factory, shows director George Cukor or Vivien Leigh, the star of Gone with the Wind . We meet Roy Fitzgerald, a bastard called to become a star under the name of Rock Hudson, but also his agent, the very powerful Henry Willson. But these real characters rub shoulders with fictional heroes, actors and actresses, producers, directors or screenwriters, homosexuals, blacks, mestizos or Asians, exposed to racism or to the glass ceiling.
The creator Ryan Murphy rewrites the history of the Mecca of cinema and fantasizes what could have happened if, in 1947, a black or Asian actress had won an Oscar.
Hollywood and #MeToo
Resolutely dynamic, optimistic, generous, the series also shows the flaws of Hollywood and already, 80 years before the #MeToo movement, the use of sexual blackmail on aspiring stars, men and women.
