Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions in Dubai Police, stated that the number of inmates benefiting from the "virtual clinic" initiative that was launched last April, in cooperation with the Dubai Police Health Center, reached 291 inmates.

Al-Shamali said that the “virtual clinic” initiative came according to the directives of the Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, and the follow-up to the Assistant Commander in Chief for Criminal Research Affairs, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al-Mansoori, and aims to delight inmates and reduce the time, effort, and cost in the transfer of the inmate to and from the clinics Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the hospital, and achieving the greatest benefit from the military staff accompanying the inmate when he goes to the clinic on other tasks, and this also achieves the required physical distance during the current period in dealing with the Corona Virus pandemic (Covid-19).

He explained that the mechanism of the virtual clinic lies in registering the inmates who wish to meet with the doctor, then after that the initial checks are made by the nurse and the tests are sent through the electronic system to the doctor, and an appointment with the doctor is made through contacting the Skype program, After the doctor is interviewed remotely, the medicine is sent to the sick inmate in the penal institutions through the pharmacy. If the inmate's condition is critical, he is sent to the clinic. Al-Shamali assured the Dubai Police’s general leadership’s keenness to provide the best services to inmates according to established international standards, and to follow up their affairs since their entry into the penal and correctional institutions until the completion of their sentence period, in addition to consulting them for the future to keep up with the latest technologies and applications of artificial intelligence in the initiatives and programs of the General Administration of Punitive and Correctional Institutions according to The latest international technology, which reflects the bright image of the Dubai Police General Command.

A number of inmates expressed their thanks to the General Command of Dubai Police for their keenness and interest in providing them with all services, whether in educational programs or health care services, stressing that the virtual clinic initiative is considered one of the most important initiatives in light of the conditions that the world suffers from the Corona pandemic.
