Hidden rivers and lakes deceitful teenagers are easy to be fooled
Police start online game trading scam

Xiaolin, a college student who lives in Fengxian District of Shanghai, was fooled 6,000 yuan "silently".

In late April 2019, Xiao Lin bought a game account online for 6,000 yuan, but the money was transferred out, but the game account was changed by the seller's password, and WeChat was also blacked out.

A reporter from China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily noted that with the popularization of high-speed wireless networks and smart phones in recent years, online games have become popular on mobile phones. At the same time, transactions related to online games have also become a "distribution center" for scammers, from game accounts, game equipment, virtual game currency, and even upgrading account levels for training. There are not many people who spend a lot of money to buy an advanced game account or equipment.

The "local tyrant" brother 6000 yuan "send" account

In the winter vacation of 2019, Kobayashi, who was in junior year, was hooked on an online game called "Fantasy Westward Journey". Not only that, he also made a new friend in the game. This friend not only took him to leveling and brushing equipment, but also often sent him some materials and currency, and sometimes asked Kobayashi to help him practice and do tasks. Logging on the other party's account, Kobayashi found the luxury equipment in his friend's "package" and decided to follow in the footsteps of "local tyrant". It didn't take long for the two to add WeChat and call them brother.

One month later, the "Taohao" brothers "unintentionally" revealed their intention to sell the number in a chat: "I'm old and I can't play anymore. Do you say someone will ask for 8800 yuan?" Xiao Lin of the account knows the other's "net worth", and the cumulative investment amount of this account is never less than tens of thousands of yuan.

Thinking of this, Kobayashi offered to buy the other party's account, but he couldn't get so much money at once. A friend of "Taohao" immediately said: "How can I make money for my brother, 6,000 yuan, this number will be given to you halfway, when you have money, just transfer it to WeChat." A friend borrowed money and collected 6,000 yuan, indicating that he could sell a few pieces of equipment in the account at once and he could immediately repay the money.

On the night of the Xiti account, Kobayashi logged in and found that the most valuable pieces of equipment are still within the "time lock" period and cannot be transferred and sold, but the long-term coming is not a concern. When Kobayashi planned to log in again the next day, he found that his account password had been changed and he could not log in. He wanted to ask "friends" for a comment, but he was blacked out.

In fact, the so-called "local tyrants" brothers were later verified by the police in Fengxian District. They were Hongmou, a criminal suspect who lives in Hangzhou. He was born in 1997 and is about the same age as the victim Kobayashi. He did not have a higher education and dropped out of school to work early. He has lived in an unresolved home for many years, mainly doing odd jobs. The only leisure and entertainment is online games. The second fraud target that Hong Mou was looking for had a similar identity background as Kobayashi. When he was captured by the police, he was using the same method to defraud another victim of 4,000 yuan.

Game fraud in game trading

The police in Fengxian District found out that in recent years, there were not a few young people who had the same experience as Xiaolin.

In July of the same year, Mr. Lu, who lives in Fengxian Bay Area, saw a message on a game website that sold a certain mobile game account. Mr. Lu is a fan of this game, and he was very excited when he saw that the account was sold at a higher level. After adding WeChat to chat with the other party, after some bargaining, the two parties agreed to settle the transaction at 6,000 yuan. Later, Mr. Lu remitted the money to the other party via WeChat transfer. A few days after the game account was obtained, Mr. Lu found that the login password of the game account he had purchased had been changed by others, and he could not log in normally. After suspecting that he was cheated, Mr. Lu came to the police station to report the case.

Finally, the Shanghai police arrested the suspect Wen in Liaocheng, Shandong. Wen admitted that he did sell a mobile game account at a price of 6,000 yuan, but Yakou denied that he had changed his password privately after selling the account, resulting in the situation that the other party could not log in normally. In response to this situation, the police further investigated and found that another victim young Wang also bought a game account from Wen somewhere for 5,000 yuan, and was also changed the password so that he could not log in to the game. After verification by the police, Xiao Wang and Mr. Lu purchased the same account. This proves that the criminal suspect Wenmou changed the password after selling the same game account and sold the profit-making criminal fact again.

A reporter from the China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily noticed that all the "sales of game accounts" earned were "little money."

Information from the People's Procuratorate of Jinshan District in Shanghai shows that college student Zhu Mou and his friend Ma Mou are selling the game "Jedi Survival" plug-in online, from May 2018 to March 2019, the cumulative sales amount reached 3 million Yu Yuan, with a total of 19,856 transactions.

"In the beginning, I planned to use the spare time of the university in such a way of" starting a business "(making money), but it was not until I was arrested that I realized the mistake and found it was an illegal and criminal act." College student Zhu Mou later interviewed by reporters Say.

In this case, the Procuratorate proposed to the court that a sentence of three years ’imprisonment and a fine be imposed, and probation may be applied.

Online game trading scams involve young people under 30 and minors

Zhang Wentao, the leader of the Anti-Telecom Network Fraud Team of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Fengxian Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, told the China Youth Daily reporter that most of the criminal suspects who designed online game transactions had leaked their personal identity information in the previous chat records. Detected a green light. But in the process of detection, there are also difficulties.

Some scammers will advertise on the public channel of the game platform, purchase the player's game account at a high price, after contacting the victim, ask the other party to privately chat through QQ, WeChat, etc., and request the victim to trade with their designated fake game account . After registering on the website, the victim completed an account transaction with the criminal and found that the transaction money could not be withdrawn on the website.

At this time, the customer service of the website will prompt the victim's withdrawal account to be incorrectly frozen and need to pay a thaw. But after the payment is still not possible, the customer service will cheat more money in other names.

Zhang Wentao said that the difficulty of investigating such cases lies in the fact that criminals use counterfeit registered websites to set up fake game account trading websites by setting up overseas websites, domain names, or buying domain names that others have used to register for fraud. At the same time, some criminals set up a fund pool and use falsely registered public bank accounts and impersonally used personal bank cards to "wash out" funds from fraud, increasing the difficulty of verification by public security organs.

The police also found that the victims of such cases are mostly young people under 30 and minors. They have obvious commonalities.

One is curiosity. Such people are young and willing to contact some new things such as online games and virtual dating. They have limited contact with these new things. When "curiosity" meets "little white", the opened money bags are exposed to the scammers. The second is vanity. For example, junior student Kobayashi loves to meet the needs of young people ’s spiritual world in a virtual world. When he meets a friend who brings his own leveling and sends his own equipment, he can let himself be in the game world and be worshipped by others. The third is arrogance. Because of the "fighting" together, the victims who were not involved in the world have never doubted the "brothers" who had known each other for more than a month. The fourth is greed. There are usually two types of people who buy and sell game accounts and equipment—especially rich and especially moneyless. The former seeks quick success, while the latter makes money and resells, commonly known as the “yellow cow”.

The police reminded the general public that in addition to choosing the correct online game trading platform, they should also protect the security of personal information, and do not easily provide their own WeChat, QQ account and password, and various verification codes. Parents of underage players should warn their children to prevent indulging in games, and tell them cases to raise awareness of prevention.
