The first hall of the seventh art that reopens in Spain will be tomorrow the drive-in drive-in theater in Dénia (Alicante), where the laughter of the Minions and the roar of the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park will open the new season in a double session with reduced prices and a capacity of 30%.

This Alicante cinema is the oldest in the country, according to what its owner, Carlos Miralles, told Efe, who opened it on June 9, 1979 with his wife, Dolores, and in these 41 years of life it had never closed until state of alarm decreed by the health crisis of COVID-19.

After moving the Dénia health area to phase 1 of the de-escalation, the Drive-In drive-in cinema will show two films selected by their own viewers. "Under normal conditions, we are almost forced to program North American commercial cinema, but this time it is different. We are going to project the cinema that our audience has chosen," Miralles said.

The entry for the double pass will be five euros per person and the direction of the family business that manages the cinema, formed by Miralles, his wife and one of his children, has decided that users do not pay for the car, as usual in this type of shows, as they have posted on their Facebook page.

" We do not do this for money , we are not going to take advantage of the fact that we have no competition to do business," said Miralles, before pointing out that the tickets were put on sale last Tuesday on the internet and that they have "many sold", although he does not know whether the 30 percent capacity will be filled.

Of the 300 vehicles that normally fit in the Drive-In, only 100 will be able to access at the moment: "If we go to phase 2, the capacity will be 50 percent," he said.

Miralles has also warned that this type of sale represents an important change in the habits of its spectators, as well as not being "on the terrace of the bar with a beer while waiting for us to serve you dinner."

The conditioning of the canteen to the new health and safety regulations is what has monopolized most of the efforts of the staff of the drive-in theater, of five people. "We have closed the bar, installed partitions and opened a small window through which we will deliver the services," said Miralles, who has indicated that to order any sandwich from the menu, viewers should resort to self-service and request the command by phone to Once it is ready, be warned to move to pick it up.

On the terrace of the hotel business, where they will enable "about 12 tables" of the 30 they had until closing, "a waiter may serve", keeping all precautions.

The first two films chosen by their viewers will be on the bill for a week . Currently, there are six car theaters throughout the country and, next to the one in Dénia, there are El Sur (Mutxamel, Alicante), the Star (Valencia), RACE (Madrid) and those of Getxo (Vizcaya) and Gijón ( Asturias).
