Recently, the wild white roe deer was discovered for the first time in the area under the jurisdiction of the Daxinggou Bureau of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park Administration. According to Feng Limin, deputy director of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard Monitoring and Research Center of the State Forest and Grass Bureau, this is a wild albino roe deer.

Roe deer body hair is red ochre in summer, yellowish brown in winter, pure white is a rare albino phenomenon of roe deer. Due to the lack of tyrosinase in the albino animals, melanin cannot be synthesized, which causes the coat color to appear white.

Except for one discovery in Inner Mongolia in 1981, the white roe deer recorded in the literature dates back to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.

Roe deer has a docile personality and is known as a "silly roe deer." Chinese netizens also call it a "sacred beast." The white roe deer was regarded as a fetish in ancient China. (Guo Jia Wu Lin Xi Zhong Chong Bo)
