Parliament adopted definitively this Wednesday, by a final show of hands of the Assembly, the controversial Laetitia Avia (LREM) bill to fight hate online.
The text provides for platforms and search engines the obligation to remove "manifestly" illegal content within 24 hours, under penalty of being fined up to 1.25 million euros. The majority, as well as the UDI-Agir deputies, voted for the majority, the socialists abstained for the most part, while the right-wing parliamentarians, of Liberties and Territories, of LFI and of the RN opposed it.
