While Inserm has launched a study to determine the typical profile of the person affected by the coronavirus, paths are already emerging. Professor Djillali Annane claims on Europe 1 that "more than 40% of serious cases come from disadvantaged backgrounds".

Does the coronavirus strike blindly among the French population? Or has it spread more among certain socio-economic categories, even certain professions? This is because this is trying to find out about Inserm with a study of 300,000 French people to determine the typical profile of a patient. But while awaiting the results of the investigation by the National Institute of Health and Research, certain avenues are already emerging, particularly among people placed in intensive care, thanks to their medical records.

The "disadvantaged areas" most affected by severe cases

"More than 40% of severe cases come from disadvantaged backgrounds, not to say in a precarious situation," said Professor Djillali Annane, who officiates at Garches hospital in Hauts-de -Seine. "Which represents a considerable part [of the cases] for a virus which does not choose it", he recalls.

Telework, a protective situation

One of the most serious hypotheses of the study currently carried out by Inserm relates to the living conditions, with several in a small apartment, but also the framework of work. "Being in a telework situation is much less at risk than leaving your home to work as a carer, police officer, delivery man or supermarket employee," explains Nathalie Bajos, who is conducting the study.

Workers all the more vulnerable since at the time of confinement, many had to travel by public transport. And that at the time there were almost no masks, nor hydroalcoholic gel.

Have you received an email or a letter from Inserm?

If Inserm sent you a letter or an email these days to participate in this study, this is not a scam. It is even important to respond to the survey so that the National Institute of Health and Research Institute can arrive at convincing results. And it may be a good opportunity to know if the coronavirus has crossed your path, since you will be offered a serological test if you decide to participate.
