A 26-year-old Chinese runner underwent emergency lung surgery due to his wearing a muzzle while running, according to Wuhan Central Hospital.

The hospital statement stated that after the runner ran 4 kilometers, he felt bad and returned to the house, and after his condition worsened, he was quickly transferred to the hospital.

The statement pointed out that the man complained of chest pain and a lack of air. After the examination by the doctors, it was found that his left lung was compressed by 90 percent, and his heart moved to the right side of the body.

The runner was diagnosed with a disease called pneumothorax or perforated chest, a disease that affects a person when the air collects abnormally in the pleural space separating the lung from the chest wall.

Symptoms usually include severe sudden pain on one side of the chest, and shortness of breath.
