Recently elected but not yet officially in office, the mayor of Subles (Calvados) did not wait to sit on the municipal council before taking solidarity initiatives. Thierry Dubosq has thus decided to use his allowances to buy raw materials intended for the manufacture of fabric masks for the 693 inhabitants of the commune, reports France 3 Normandy this Sunday.

Almost 350 euros in compensation each month

Each month, the mayor receives nearly 350 euros in compensation related to his function. It is this sum, for the months of March, April and May that Thierry Dubosq has chosen to withdraw from his personal account to offer masks to all of his citizens. “Our commune is rather working class. Not everyone may be able to afford a mask for the whole family. And we didn't necessarily have the budget to offer one to everyone, ”he told France 3.

Once the raw materials were purchased, the mayor called on the goodwill to make the masks. They were then sent to a laundry to be cleaned and packed in a sachet. Elected officials, for their part, took care of the distribution by going door-to-door.
