La Baule beach, May 9, 2019 - J. Urbach / 20 Minutes

The eagerly awaited news finally fell on Tuesday evening. The first two Loire-Atlantique beaches are authorized to reopen to the public, starting Wednesday morning. The prefect Claude d'Harcourt has just signed two orders for the beaches of La Baule and Pornichet. It will be possible to tread on the sand, fish or swim from 8h to 21h. But beware, if they will be among the first in France to reopen (it will be this weekend for many of them), no "static position" will be tolerated.

It will therefore be impossible to lie on your towel or even sit down: access to the beach will be possible for walking, taking a dip, or practicing a sport individually. Groupings of more than 10 people, parties or alcoholic aperitifs are also prohibited. The town halls concerned must ensure that these rules are properly followed: the prefect warns that he will be able to reverse this decision if the population does not comply with the instructions, or if the health situation changes unfavorably.

Other beaches pending

"Access to the beaches meets a need to maintain the economic and tourist attractiveness of the town," says the decree. Other beaches in the department are also waiting to be able to benefit from this exemption, like Saint-Nazaire or Saint-Brévin who requested it. A few days ago, as in other departments, several elected officials had formally expressed this wish.
