Video game lover, life story and podcast lover: "Gamers" is for you. The latest production from Europe 1 Studio is interested in the stories of cult video games: Assasin's Creed, Uncharted, The Sims or Tetris, to find out who is behind these bestsellers. "We are on the human, the itinerary and the anecdotes", summarizes Jean-François Morisse, specialist journalist, on Europe 1.

With containment, the success of podcasts continues, and neither does the success of video games. The alliance of the two gives a new addition to the podcasts of Europe 1 Studio: "Gamers", available since Tuesday on the website of Europe 1. A podcast in six episodes of about twenty minutes which is interesting to the history of cult video games: Tetris, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, The Sims, Mortal Kombat  or  Final Fantasy . In charge of this podcast: Jean-François Morisse, journalist for  Jeux vidéo magazine . "The principle of Gamers is to discover the big names in video games, the people who are behind," he said on Europe 1.

"We know video games well, but we do not know, or little, the creators," added the journalist who claims more than 50,000 hours of play on the clock and more than 25 years spent traveling the planet to meet the greatest creators. 

Itinerary of a bestseller creator

The podcast, broadcast until mid-June at the rate of one episode per week, is aimed at both purists and tourists. "The subject is, as we know the biographies of the great film directors, we will make you discover the itinerary and the life of these people. How do you become a creator of video games, bestsellers, who are they? We're on the human, the route and the anecdotes. "

And they are not lacking, like the creator of The Sims , who started as a tester at Electronic Arts, and who is now "the big boss" of the company. "You have a lot of routes like that, which are completely crazy and we wanted to tell them while making discover the talents that are behind video games", explains Jean-François Morisse. 

Assassin's Creed, the historical saga

The first episode of the series is dedicated to the Assassin's Creed saga , an action and adventure game, developed by Ubisoft in 2007. For neophytes, the principle of the game is based on "Animus", a machine capable of read the memory of an individual's ancestors and therefore explore many historical eras. The time of the crusades, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece or even the period of the French Revolution of 1789 were used as sets for the various opuses of the saga.

"At Ubisoft, there is a historian in particular, Maxime Durand, and others who will collaborate depending on the period. They are responsible for the credibility of the whole," said the specialist journalist. "I think that history buffs can find their way around and it is a way for those who do not necessarily like to discover historical periods."

The Ubisoft historian also intervenes in the podcast, to explain how the player's immersion can make History fun, and "sexy". The next installment,  Assassin's Creed Valhalla , is eagerly awaited by players. It will take place in the period of the Viking Middle Ages.

Words to players in bonuses

The episodes are divided into two parts. "There is a part that tells the story with people who intervene (…), and for each episode we designed a bonus episode that gives voice to players, fans of video games so that we have the during, that’s the player’s experience. " For the first episode, Monsieur Poulpe, humorist and television host, talks about his interest in the saga. "We were looking for a fan, an enthusiast," says Jean-François Morisse.
