  • From this Tuesday, the teachers of the schools will find part of their pupils. For those from the college of departments classified as "green", it will be necessary to wait until May 18.
  • After two months of school at home, it is impossible to do the class as before confinement.
  • An approach that will be refocused on fundamental knowledge and the revision of concepts already seen previously.

It will be a memorable day. From this Tuesday, the teachers of the schools will find part of their pupils. They will be "more than 1.5 million, out of a total of 6.7 million schoolchildren in kindergarten and elementary school," declared in Le JDD  the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer. For those of the college of departments classified "green", it will be necessary to wait until May 18. But they will not have school every day, the government having fixed the maximum gauge at 15 children per class. And with the start of the holidays fixed on the evening of July 4, school time will ultimately be very short.

After two months of school at home, it is impossible to do the class as before confinement. Moreover, the circular published last Monday, which sets the conditions for resumption of teaching, emphasizes the need to "listen" to students on their return. Hence the importance of looking after their welcome, as Samuel, a school teacher will do: “I intend to reassure them by telling them that we are going to put in place as many things as possible to ensure their good health. I will not carry out a personalized assessment of each student, even if each will be able to express themselves, explain how they lived this period, by presenting us their creations and their occupations, for example ”, he indicates to 20 Minutes . Sandra, a teacher in the large kindergarten section, also intends to take it easy: “The first day will be intended to discuss with the students their experience of confinement, to express it through drawing. But also to discuss their knowledge of the disease and teach them new rules for living together and barrier gestures ”.

"The school is more like a kind of directed study"

This relational work is all the more important since the teachers will not know all of their students, as Julie, a school teacher in the northern districts of Marseille, explains: “The choice was made to group the students by class level. Their teachers do not work in the same way, they are not at the same point in the programs. It is therefore impossible to classify normally. For us, the school is more like a kind of directed study, with students doing their homework with the help of a teacher. ” Same observation for Alice: "We are told that we should no longer think in terms of class, but of group, because we will divide the children present each morning, of our class or level, or luckily luck, with students we don't necessarily know ”. Additional difficulty: there will be a rotation of students: "They will come every other week, so we will do with them what will be given in parallel with the other part of the class at home," predicts Sandrine.

No question of resuming the program where we left off. "Above all, it will be a question of consolidating the achievements and putting them back in the bath as much as possible," announces Gwenola. “I'm going to favor the fundamentals. Reading, understanding, self-confidence. Put them back in working order. Have them project themselves into rituals. Recreate the link between learning and everyday life. And above all, defuse all fears, ”also projects Laure. Impossible also, according to Samuel, to approach all the disciplines: "It will necessarily be more focused on fundamental knowledge: French and math". “The children will be semi-autonomous and we will be able to help individually those who have difficulties. Part of the day can be used for more collective moments, but respecting barrier gestures: plastic arts project, story reading or other, ”Vanessa plans.

"I have to totally reinvent my job"

And for some teachers who innovated during confinement, this will be an opportunity to exploit their original initiatives, like Manon: “During confinement, I worked with escape games  : these are puzzles that students must solve to find the solution (for example, find a character who has lost himself, save characters who have been kidnapped by a villain ...). This operation allows students to have fun while revising the concepts, it is an additional motivation. For the recovery, I plan to continue. ”

In kindergarten, where collective work is usually very numerous, teachers will have to rethink their pedagogical approaches: “I have to totally reinvent my profession. I have pupils who are 3/4 years old; according to the protocol, they will have to sit for long periods of time, which is not suited to their needs. It will also be complex to teach from a distance of 1 meter. For many activities, you have to be close to the student (writing, graphics, etc.) I plan to prepare a tray for each child with individual equipment. For the EPS, I will undoubtedly do yoga, which does not require contact with others, “already plans Lydia. Ditto for her sister Sandra: “I will focus on the revision of the concepts carried out remotely the first weeks, to bring all the students up to standard with differentiation, a more individualized program, for those who are ahead. Thereafter, I will propose pre-CP: knowledge of the letters of the alphabet, copy in cursive writing, encoding of unknown words, phonology, knowledge of numbers as well as regular motor skills to overcome the difficulty of sitting without move ".

Completely redesigned EPS courses

The content of the courses at the college will also be very different: “It is obvious that we will have to reassure the students about the absence of the courses for two months. I intend to explain to them that the program will no longer be taken into account and that all that will be done will be revisions of the current year. So there will no longer be, strictly speaking, courses by subject, but rather an aid for interdisciplinary homework, ”anticipates Coralie. Elise, a Spanish teacher, will also try to gently re-motivate her students: “I think I can reassure them about their knowledge by mainly making revisions: many of them feel that they have forgotten everything, that they are worthless to no longer know how to do anything… No point in tackling new themes! ", She judges. And the EPS courses will not look like what they were, given the health constraints. “I plan to focus my sessions on team challenges, by organizing Olympiads: one runner performs a distance, the other performs a throw, following a physical challenge. The goal will be that a minimum of students practice at the same time, but that they are motivated by the competition even if it will be done through a delayed timer, "reveals Pierre-Emmanuel.

It remains to be seen what is planned for the majority of students who will stay at home. "Having a professional conscience, I will continue, just like during confinement, to send the work for the week by email (YouTube sports videos, educational videos, sound and writing sheets, mathematical manipulations ...)", says Albane, professor In kindergarten. But some teachers do not really see how they will be able to multiply themselves: “We cannot ensure one class in face-to-face and another in distance. Parents will be redirected to the Cned platform first. We are thinking about a virtual video class filming myself doing class for the writing workshops, for example, for the students who are at home… ”, says Sandra.
