Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said on Sunday that he was "betting on intelligence and understanding" of the French for the first phase of deconfinement which begins this Monday.

Guest of "Political questions" of France Inter / France Info / Le Monde / France Televisions, the minister insisted on "the conscience" of everyone during this delicate phase while the coronavirus is still circulating.

"I trust the discernment of the police and common sense"

Asked about the new derogatory certificate beyond the 100-kilometer limit, Christophe Castaner argued that there were “no closed list” of compelling family reasons for derogating from this ban. "I trust the discernment of the police and common sense" of the citizens, he said.

Thus, in connection with a petition by elected officials demanding that grandparents be able to travel for a birth, he stressed that the elderly were those with a "higher risk of catching the virus". He therefore advised "to wait a month or two" to go see the newborn. There is no prohibition, but, he said, "we are betting on intelligence and understanding."
