For the past month, David Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson have been organizing a weekly evening streaming party from their home. Gathered on a stage designed to look like a cafe on the Greek island of Hydra, the whole family of guitarist Pink Floyd takes the opportunity to play, but also to answer questions from fans. The artist revealed that he is currently finishing a lyrics book by Syd Barrett, the co-founder of Pink Floyd.

A rather tedious work, it seems, since David Gilmour had to isolate the voice of Syd Barrett on certain titles which they had recorded together in order to decipher his words.

Great sadness

Syd Barrett struggled with his mental problems and addictions when he recorded his solo album in 1970. A period that David Gilmour remembers fondly. "It's quite sad and touching to listen to this good old Sydney sing alone. I still remember being in the room when he sang that. And it's a constant source of sadness, ”he said.

Syd Barrett lived more or less reclusive from 1978, devoting himself mainly to painting and gardening. He died in 2006 from pancreatic cancer.
