The Emperor Shiyuan (pronounced "Cheng") on Nanchizi Street was the Royal Archives during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is also the only existing brick and stone archive warehouse in China. It is divided into two houses, north and south. Due to historical reasons, the south house has become a large complex, and there are serious problems in illegal construction and private wire pulling. According to Dongcheng District's "2018-2020 Special Action Plan for" Reconciliation, Remediation, and Promotion ", the retreat of Huang Shiyang's cultural relics ended at the end of last year. Yesterday, the demolition work in the hospital was officially launched, and the construction period is expected to last 50 days. Thereafter, the Palace Museum will restore the original appearance of the cultural relics and monuments.

35 illegally built ancient courtyards

"Slow down! Be careful down!" In Huangshiyuan, at the south exit of Nanchizi Street, the urban management law enforcement team and construction personnel of Donghuamen Street in Dongcheng District carefully moved the stack of roof debris in the narrow aisle. .

Pushing open the gate of the South Palace of the Emperor Shizun has been unpainted. On both sides of the courtyard are continuous color steel plate rooms. The blue iron roof and the ancient building seem out of place. The aisle is narrow, the debris is messy, asbestos tiles, color steel plates, thin wooden boards, etc., are easily assembled on the top of various small kitchens and small rooms, and some illegally built small rooms are even built against the walls of Huang Shiyuan's courtyard. At first glance, this is a typical hutong compound, and it is difficult to associate the scene in front of us with "Huang Shi-yuan". The grand Nanyuan, which originally only accommodated four conciergeries, was squeezed by 35 illegally built houses, leaving only a "snack path" that was full of twists and turns.

The retreat of cultural relics has been completed

Zhu Weidong, the captain of the urban management law enforcement team of Donghuamen Street, introduced that Huang Shiyuan is divided into the North and the South. The North Court is used by the First Historical Archives of China. The main hall of Huang Shiyuan is located in the North Court. The grand style is magnificent. .

The south of the main gate of the Emperor Shishi belongs to the South Courtyard, which is jointly used by the Palace Museum and the First Historical Archives of China. Due to historical reasons, the Nanyuan has gradually become a large complex since the 1970s, with dozens of residents. With the increase in the living needs of residents, there are more and more illegal constructions in the hospital, and the problem of private construction is serious.

The reporter noticed that there are still several ancient-style buildings in the southern courtyard. According to reports, the heritage elements of the Nanyuan include five cultural relic buildings, five sections of walls and four doors. Among them, the cultural relic buildings are the main entrance of Huangshiyuan courtyard and four duty houses at four corners, respectively. Earlier, the house of value was also used for living, and now all have been vacated.

As of last year, there were 35 illegally built houses in Huangshiyuan Nanyuan, involving 21 households with an area of 597.14 square meters. The retreat of emperor Shishi's cultural relics has been completed by the end of 2019.

All manual removal

Yesterday afternoon, after the construction staff worked, several color steel plate houses in the courtyard were demolished, leaving only the skeleton, and the debris on the roofs of other houses were also cleaned one by one.

"The demolition is officially started today and can be completely demolished in about 50 days. In order to protect the cultural relics, do not destroy the bricks and tiles, and maintain the original appearance of the ancient buildings, we require the construction units to take all manual demolition, and at the same time, we must take measures to reduce dust. Zhang Liang, a member of the Urban Management Law Enforcement Team of Huamen Sub-district, said that before the demolition started, the courtyard has been evaluated by cultural relics experts and a perfect demolition plan has been formed. Workers will first demolish the self-built houses in the yard, and the part next to the ancient building will be considered by the cultural relics department before processing.

After the unauthorized removal of the Huangshiyuan South Courtyard, the Palace Museum will carry out professional restoration to restore the ancient style. The demolition work is not only to provide protection for the restoration of cultural relics and ancient buildings, but also a necessary part of the relics of the central axis of Beijing.
