A beach in Cannes, during confinement - F. Binacchi / ANP / 20 Minutes

  • The government authorizes reopening of beaches on a case-by-case basis with the authorization of the prefect and "at the request of the mayors".
  • Several mayors, including that of Cannes, have already sent a request.
  • Christian Estrosi, in Nice, prefers to wait.

If the desire for sand or pebbles on the Côte d'Azur is becoming more and more irrepressible, know that it may be necessary to wait a little longer. In its deconfinement plan presented this Thursday afternoon, the government left the door open for a reopening of the beaches ... but under conditions. It will be possible but only on a case-by-case basis with the authorization of the prefect, "at the request of the mayors". And with one sine qua non condition: respect for social distancing.

And if in Cannes, David Lisnard has already asked Bernard Gonzalez, the representative of the State in the Alpes-Maritimes, for regulated access "for certain individual sports activities", in Nice, on the other hand, Christian Estrosi prefers to wait.

"No extended station on the sand"

Monday, "I will deliver the main public spaces, the Prom ', the gardens with special schedules for the elderly, but let's not go too fast either," said the mayor LR of the French Riviera capital. "I will take stock, later, to see for the reopening of the beaches," he said. The elected official “does not request access to swimming for the moment”, confirmed his entourage, arguing that “the emergency is school, transport and security”.

On the Croisette side, things are clear. In a letter addressed to the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, David Lisnard claims "access to the sea for certain individual sports activities [...] which do not require an extended station on the sand". And the elected to quote "swimming in the sea, individual scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, surfing, paddle and recreational fishing". At the beginning of the evening, Thursday, the elected LR of the city of the festivals had not yet obtained an answer.

A petition with more than 26,000 signatures

The same request from the mayor of Villeneuve-Loubet has already reached the prefect. Another of the mayor of Antibes should also soon arrive in his hands. "As of May 11, I will ask for the possibility of authorizing access to the sea for sports activities under certain conditions", writes Jean Leonetti on Twitter.

From May 11th # Deconfinement11Mai I will ask @ prefet06 the possibility of authorizing access to the sea for sports activities under certain conditions in accordance with what was announced @EPhilippePM

This Thursday evening, a petition launched two weeks ago by a Antibois precisely, and claiming to be able to find "access to the sea", "an area of freedom", totaled more than 26,000 signatures. "We ask to be able to practice swimming, activities linked to the sea. Without a value judgment, it is certainly less risky than in certain places where the population density is high", writes Olivier Durin before questioning: "A nobody alone on his paddle, it's risky !? "
