In a statement, the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture said that "the practice of nautical activities at sea will be possible again on the Atlantic coast from May 11". "This is a victory for ports and boaters," says Serge Pallares, president of the French Federation of marinas.
The question was also asked to the prefect of the Brittany region this Friday morning during a press point. Michèle Kirry, head of the region with the longest coastline, said that the ban on the practice of pleasure boating would be lifted in the decree being written which would govern the procedures for deconfinement.
A 100 km zone for boats?
As of May 11, boats will therefore be able to return to sea. They could however be limited to an area of 100 kilometers around their point of attachment, as on land. Can windsurfing boards, surfboards, paddles or other kitesurf also find the taste of salt water and the smell of sea spray? "Yes, that's what we were told," concedes the Breton prefect, who says "wait to have the decree" to be sure. Because certain modalities remain to be defined. Knowing that access to the beaches remains prohibited for the time being, it will first be up to the mayors to request a decree from their prefect to obtain the reopening of the coastline. "It will be done on a case-by-case basis," said Michèle Kirry, saying that she was "ready to reopen Breton beaches" provided that the rules of distancing can be respected.
The maritime prefect also invited boaters "to adopt responsible behavior, based on caution and vigilance" to which is added "strict compliance with health rules to protect against coronavirus". Good luck.
