A woman in London said her HIV infection had "saved" her life when doctors discovered that she was suffering from a fatal heart condition, according to reports. According to the "New York Post".

The BBC reported that Angela Schlegel, 36, was fighting the Corona virus in the intensive care unit at Royal Brompton Hospital in London, when she was diagnosed with a condition known as EGPA.

"I was shocked when I was told that my heart was not working as it should," Schlegel said of the disease, which causes severe asthma and damage to the heart, joints, lungs and nerves.

She revealed that she had been visiting doctors two years ago for asthma problems, but "she did not know that her heart had health problems."

"If I had left EGPA undiagnosed, I would have fallen dead," said Schlegel.

However, Schlegel made it clear that her battle against the Corona virus, was also endangering her life within 5 weeks of hospitalization.

"The virus saved my life in the long run, but in the short term Corona almost killed me," she added.
