Due to the current health crisis, the University of Orléans (Loiret) has decided to set up "specific ad hoc aid" for the most vulnerable students. To receive this sum, between 100 to 1,300 euros, they were asked to provide their Vitale card and a bank account statement, says La République du Center .

The move shocked many students, but also teachers. Faced with the outcry caused by this request, the president of the university acknowledged that it was an error, reports the Magcentre news site which was relayed by France 3 Center-Val-de-Loire.

University will no longer request these documents

Alerted, a law professor and member of the university's board of directors expressed her indignation. “This request is very intrusive. We don't respect the legal framework, ”deplores Corinne Leveleux-Teixeira. “The University of Orleans has been slow to put in place measures for precarious students. And now […] we are in a sort of suspicion of fraud against fragile students ”, regrets the one who also asked for explanations from the president of the university.

The latter has not yet replied to his email sent this Saturday. However, he publicly acknowledged that the method used was not correct. "We have no right to request bank statements," said Ary Bruand. I approached the service of the direction of student life, which manages the procedure, on Monday, and I asked our services to put an end to the request for these documents ”.
