Former Minister for the Ecological Transition Nicolas Hulot called on Wednesday to create an ecological and social conference to reflect on the post-coronavirus crisis and puts forward 15 short-term proposals. "This health crisis (...) is only the avatar of a much deeper crisis, which highlights our flaws, our excesses, our vulnerabilities", says Nicolas Hulot, who took over the head of his foundation after having resigned from the post of minister in August 2018, in an interview with Le Monde .

"There is first of all a social and humanitarian emergency, which must be answered with the tools available", but it is necessary "to think simultaneously, or at least in a very short time, of the next world, and to do it consistently, ”he continues. Faced with the climate crisis, “we have a catastrophic scenario, of unprecedented scale, but which is avoidable. And, to cope with it, we are not a quarter of the solutions we have taken against the coronavirus, ”he recalls.

Fair exchange

To respond to the short-term crisis, Nicolas Hulot puts forward fifteen proposals made by the Power of Living Pact which brings together fifty associations: "pay an exceptional solidarity bonus of 250 euros per month per person to households in greatest difficulty "," helping weakened tenants to pay their rent "," revaluing the amount of the RSA "... For Nicolas Hulot, we must also debate" universal income, the tax on financial transactions, relocation of a number of activities, the need for fair trade rather than free trade "and" the revaluation of all vital trades ".

The former minister also pleads for the financial aid currently granted to sectors in difficulty to be done with counterparts. To finance these transformations, it is necessary "to seek money where it is, to tax in a more important way the incomes which do not result from work, to put an end to this wild capitalism", he continues.

Nicolas Hulot proposes to create an ecological and social conference, possibly "of a Grenelle-type format", on the condition that "this is not yet another consultation with no future". "Ultimately, the idea is to constitute a third Assembly, which takes height compared to the political game, but especially which plans the future by extracting itself from the media and political rhythm" and to reflect on "constitutional revisions "
