  • From May 11, it will be possible to rent a property on the Girondin coast less than 100km from home
  • The marinas will also reopen while the sale of take-out oysters in the cabins is once again authorized.
  • The beaches will remain closed until the beginning of June to avoid "population mixing".

Deconfinement requires, the prefectural order prohibiting rentals on the Gironde coastline will end Monday, May 11. Fabienne Buccio, the prefect, confirmed this on Tuesday. From next week, it will again be possible to rent a course of the coast for a few days or weeks but with a strict rule: the rental must be at most 100 kilometers from your residence. Despite this constraint, this is good news for the tourism sector.

In addition, the marinas will be accessible again from May 11. Another good news for the coast, the oyster shacks have been authorized to sell for a few days. On the other hand, no restoration on the spot obviously.

"We don't want a population mix"

Fabienne Buccio also returned at length to her discussions on the “sensitive” subject of places: “My popularity rating is not at its best with elected officials from the coast,” admits the prefect. First of all, she explained in relation to the requests on sports activities that the rule should be the same for everyone. She is not going to "say yes to surfers and no to swimmers".

Asked about the possibility of going for walks in the forest and not on the beach, she explained:

"I hadn't made an order on the forest because we couldn't go out more than a kilometer from home so it wouldn't make sense to take one when I was deconfining. Then, I consider that the attractive effect of the beach is much greater than that of the forest. We do not want mixed populations and the beach attracts distant people. "

Despite his position, Fabienne Buccio ensures that discussions continue for June 1 and that elected officials have very good ideas for managing the reopening of beaches as well as possible.
