Good morning. This is Kim Su-hyun, reporter for SBS performances.

Did you have a good holiday? There were many performances to watch during the holiday season, and I watched both versions of the play 'Frankenstein' at the British National Theater. Actress Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for `` Sherlock '' and `` Dr. Strange, '' was so gruesome that it was a week in public, so those who haven't seen it can still see it on YouTube at the National Theater of England. Ambassador English subtitles are provided.

Tomorrow is Children's Day, so we collected online performances for two days today and tomorrow. There are many performances that the family can watch together. As a domestic organization, the National Opera Company will release Mozart's opera 'Magic Flute' for one week from Monday, and the National Ballet will show the ballet 'The Nutcracker' on Tuesday morning.
`` Don Quixote '', which is screened by the Vienna National Ballet in 2016, is a comedy ballet that you can enjoy. It's a revised version by Rudolf Noureev. The title is 'Don Quixote', but Don Quixote is only a supporting role, and the main content is 'Marriage Operation of Barber Basil and Tavern Daughter Kitri'. The delightful and pleasant music has a scent of Spain, including a matador, a Spanish dancer, and a Spanish folk dance. [▶ Trailer view]

'The Bright Stream' of the Bolshoi Ballet Company is a two-story comedy ballet choreographed by Shostakovich's ballet music. This is the last of three of the three ballet music of Shostakovich. Against the backdrop of the Soviet collective farm, this is a ballet choreographed by Fedor Rofukov, who was the artistic director of Kirov (Today's Mariinsky Ballet) in the 1920s. It was an ambitious piece that added Russian folk dance and gorgeous dance to the technique of classical ballet.

Shostakovich and Ropukov aimed to be 'understandable yet highly artistic ballet'. When the ballet premiered in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1935, not only was the ticket sold out, it was also praised by experts for 'extending the horizon of the Soviet ballet'. However, the atmosphere changed completely as we performed in Moscow. This is because Shostakovich's opera, Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk, touched Stalin's planting firmly. In 1936, the Communist Party's agency, Fraudzi, threw bad reviews on the performance. The 'comedy' set against a collective farm was considered to ridicule farmers, and this work was branded as a reactionary ballet that insulted the workers without abandoning the bourgeois habits.

Ballet performances are prohibited, and all creative teams suffer. The scriptwriter Adrian Piotropsky was taken to an infamous concentration camp and never returned. The choreographer Rofukov was supposed to be the director of the Bolshoi Ballet, but he was not only inaugurated, but was able to be brought back to the camp and finally returned. It is said that Ropukov and her brother-in-law, Ballerina Lydia, benefited from being the wife of the prestigious British economist Keynes. As a prominent choreographer, he has since failed to change. Shostakovich has never written ballet music since this work.

The 'Bale of Unclear' has been buried for a long time, and is again brought to light by Alexei Ratmansky, artistic director of the Russian Bolshoi Ballet in 2003. Ratmannsky was first fascinated by this music by Shostakovich in a performance recorded by Rosenbensky in Stockholm in 1995, and decided to put it back on stage. The original choreography has not been recorded for this work, so it was newly created as a repertory of the Bolshoi Ballet, with the direct choreography of Ratmansky.

It was an unfamiliar piece, so I found it interesting. Starting with Shostakovich, I even looked at the story of Keynesian economist Keynes. Shostakovich's ballet music was good. I think it will be fun to watch the video. Comedy Ballerani, with a collective farm background, is curious. [▶ View trailer]
