Airlines do not yet know under what conditions they will be able to resume their activity. The imperatives of social distancing are in particular at the heart of their concerns. If they were forced to leave a free seat between two passengers, the prices of plane tickets could soar, reports the specialized media Air Journal .

An increase "at least 50%"

“In the current state, we do not know how to fly planes that are only two-thirds full while being profitable. Either the plane can fly and we earn just a little bit of money on the flight, or it can't fly… Or, we increase the price of tickets and it's at least 50%, ”said Alexandre de Juniac, President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), on BFM TV.

Each airline can decide individually how it organizes the resumption of its activity, but they will all have to comply with the rules established by the government. If the space of a seat between two passengers were to be imposed, the Ryanair company already announced that it would not resume its flights. Others, such as Easyjet, said they could agree to abide by it, but did not mention the impact on ticket prices.
