On April 29, nearly 20,000 catties of male fish were harvested from the Tieshan Reservoir in Yueyang, Hunan. It is reported that the big male fish of this harvest is released around the winter solstice in December every year, and more than 200,000 jin of fish fry are released each time. The 6 to 8 pounds of large fish used for cooking Hunan cuisine chop pepper fish heads requires a growth period of 3 to 4 years.
