"Strike a blow to mark the spirits". Twelve days after taking a decree prohibiting the sale of strong spirits to take away, the prefect of Morbihan is preparing to put an end to it. "There is indeed a decree which has just been taken which repeals the ban on the sale of strong spirits in the department", indicates the prefecture of the department of southern Brittany. "In publication", this decree will be effective from Thursday, specifies the administration which did not specify the reasons for this new decree. The text was supposed to last until May 11, the announced end date of confinement linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

On April 17, Prefect Patrice Faure had issued an order prohibiting the take-away sale of strong spirits due to a "very worrying rise in domestic violence in the department" during this period of confinement. "I got what I wanted: an awareness," explained the prefect Wednesday in an interview with Telegram . Patrice Faure emphasized the fact that “certain facts are extremely serious. And in 100% of cases, it is under the influence of alcohol that these dramas occur. ”

"The alcohol-containment duo gets on badly"

Since the start of confinement, cases of domestic violence had jumped "by 30% in a few days" in the department, according to the prefect. In a video in which he addressed the population, he said: "It is clear that the alcohol-containment duo gets on badly".

The ban had raised anger and incomprehension from producers and distributors of spirits who had denounced "an arbitrary, discriminatory and ineffective decision".
