Chinese pregnant woman falls in cliff in Thailand: her husband was sentenced to life imprisonment and has applied for an extension of appeal

  Beijing News (Reporter Li Yifan) A Chinese pregnant woman fell off a cliff in Thailand and accused her husband Yu Moudong of pushing it down after surviving. On March 24 this year, Yu Moudong was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ubon Ratchathani court in Thailand.

  On the 28th, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the victim's lawyer that Yu Moudong filed an application for extension of appeal, with May 24 as the deadline. If the appeal court accepts the case, it will no longer hold a hearing and only conduct a written hearing.

  According to a report by the Beijing News, on June 9, 2019, Ms. Wang, a pregnant woman in Jiangsu, fell into a cliff while playing in Padang National Park in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. During the fall, she was stopped by a big tree. After surviving, Ms. Wang accused her husband Yu Moudong of pushing it off the cliff.

  On June 17, 2019, Yu Moudong was arrested by the police while visiting his wife in the hospital. The Thai police subsequently interviewed the media and said that they had obtained the relevant evidence. According to Thai law, the suspect will be sentenced to life imprisonment.

  On February 20, 2020, the case was heard in the court of Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. During the trial, Yu Moudong claimed that he was not guilty. The case was held for 7 consecutive days. On March 24, the court of Ubon Ratchathani sentenced Yu Moudong to intentional murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The Beijing News reporter learned from the victim Ms. Wang that after the verdict, Yu Moudong said in court that she would appeal.

  This afternoon, Ms. Wang ’s attorney and Thai Datuo Law Firm ’s lawyer Shi Datuo told the Beijing News that as of the 25th of this month, the 30-day appeal period had passed. May 24 is the deadline, "If the appeal court accepts, according to the Thai legal process, it will not be held again, only a written hearing."
