Data from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine revealed that there are about 120 vaccine projects against the Covid-19 epidemic, including about 10 in the stage of clinical trials, according to
the well-known college in the field of medicine in Britain. 110 in the "preclinical" development phase.
Eight projects have reached the first stage of clinical trials in humans, including a Chinese project developed especially by the "Kansino" company listed in Hong Kong, and has reached a more advanced stage with clinical trials in the first and second stages.
The main goal of the first stage trials is to test the safety of the medicinal product and to a lesser extent its effectiveness. As for the second and third stage experiments, which are conducted on a larger scale, they aim in particular to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccine before the health authorities allow it to be brought to market.
There are three other Chinese projects in the first phase of the experiment: one is being developed by the giant pharmaceutical company Sinovac and two are being carried out by the Shenzhen Medical Institute, according to information from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
There is also a British project being conducted by Oxford University and another German is being carried out by the Piontech Lab and they are still in the first stage.
There are also two vaccine projects in the United States in the first phase of trials: one is carried out by the biotechnology company "Moderna" in cooperation with the US National Institutes of Health and the other is conducted by the "Innovio Pharmacy" company.
The development of effective and safe vaccines is a key point in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic that has killed more than 210,000 people worldwide.
In the absence of proven treatments for severe forms of this disease, large-scale vaccines alone may allow immunity to cope with the disease and stop the transmission of the virus.
The main problem is the relatively slow development of vaccines, their large-scale production and extensive vaccination campaigns.
